Kuto Besak is a palace building which in the seventeenth century became the center of the Palembang Sultanate. The idea of establishing Kuto Besak Fort was initiated by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I who ruled in 1724-1758 and carried out the construction of his successor, Sultan Mahmud Bahauddin who ruled in 1776-1803. The fort began to be built in 1780, cement adhesive cement using limestone in the hinterland of the Ogan River coupled with egg white.
The existence of Kampung Kapitan and the history of Chinese society in Palembang cannot be released from the place of worship of Tri Dharma Chandra Nadi or in Chinese called Soei Goeat Kiang Temple. The temple was built in the area of 10 Ulu in 1733, instead of a pagoda in the 7 Ulu area that burned a year earlier. The temple is used by people from three religions and beliefs to pray. The three religions and beliefs accommodated in this temple are Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Masjid Agung Palembang (Palembang Central Mosque) is the religious activities center of Moslem community in Palembang. Also this mosque is one of historical artifacts from Palembang Sultanate which built on year 1748 by Sultan Susuhunan Abdurrohman. At first, this mosque had size 30×36 m square. There are four side which serves as its entrance except the west side for mihrab. Its roof using three stages with flower-shape pod on its edge.
Monpera it is actually a monument of people’s struggle. It was built to commemorate the struggle of local people against the Dutch. The monument is located adjacent to the Great Mosque of Palembang. It has a unique characteristic, as well. The monument features 6 pillars and a relief of war. Palembang was involved in a war against the Dutch for 5 days. The Monpera becomes a symbol of it.
Kampung Kapitan, means the “Kapitan Village”, it is actually a settlement, which is located in 7 Ulu Palembang. The village is famous for its Tionghoa community. No wonder, most of the villagers are Chinese. Kampung Kapitan is surrounded by famous rivers. There is Musi River in the north part of the village. In the east part of the village, there is Kademangan River. The village is also famous for its traditional house. The house represents local’s architecture, which comes with a pyramid roof (Limas). Though, it also applies the European architecture style. The influence came from the past invasion of the Dutch. Kampung Kapitan has 15 prime buildings.
Kemaro Island is one of most popular destinations in South Sumatera. This island is located in a smaal delta of Musi River, about 6km downstream of Ampera Bridge. When visiting Kemaro Island, there will be a Chinese Vihara or Klenteng with 9 stairs, typically Chinese building in the middle of the island. This Hok Tjiang Rio temple was build since 2006 and becomes the signature icon in this island. This island becomes more crowded during Chinese festivals like Cap Go Meh or Imlek New Year. In front of Klenteng, there is grave yard of Prince Tan Bun An from Chinese and Princess Siti Fatimah of Sriwijaya.
Jakabaring Sport City is an integrated sports facility complex in Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia. The complex is located 5 kilometers southeast of Palembang city center, across the Musi River by the Ampera Bridge in Jakabaring, Seberang Ulu I area.
It was the main venue of the 2011 Southeast Asian Games 2011 Southeast Asian Games, the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games, the 2014 ASEAN University Games, the 2017 Asian Triathlon Championship and the 2018 Asian Games. Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, one of the largest stadiums in Indonesia, is located within this complex.
Ampera Bridge is a Vertical-lift Bridge in the city of Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia, which is the landmark of the city. It connects Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir, two regions of Palembang. It can no longer be opened to allow ships to pass. The bridge’s colour has been changed three times. At first it was grey, but it was changed to be yellow in 1992. And in 2002, when Indonesia was led by Megawati as president, the colour was changed again to red.
Cheng Ho Mosque, officially Al Islam Muhammad Cheng Hoo Sriwijaya Palembang Mosque, is a mosque dedicated for Muslim Chinese People located in Jakabaring Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia.The mosque was built with a combination of architectural elements from China, Malay, and Indonesian Archipelago, complete with certain parts of the mosque such as imam’s residence and surrounding fences.
